2 Days of Pain Management Education
Day 1: From Foundational Theory to Fluoroscopic Precision—Mastering Interventional Pain Management Techniques
During the initial phases of the seminar, attendees progress from foundational theory to immersive practice. The physician introduces essential supplies and solutions used in pain management, detailing what to purchase and how to tailor approaches to different patients and problems. Core anatomical presentations on lumbosacral osteology of the lower spine region and neuroanatomy establish the basis for correct needle placement and safety considerations in diagnostic lumbar facet joint injections and arthrocentesis. The curriculum then explores prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma, and botulinum toxin-A, before expanding into non-ablative interventional therapies with emphasis on lumbar facet joint procedures. Blending theoretical knowledge and practical experience, participants engage in hands-on practice with volunteer patients, refining diverse injection techniques while mastering the intricacies of fluoroscopy—from equipment usage and safety considerations to precise needle placement. The session culminates with practical training on cadavers or anatomical models, applying fluoroscopic skills to various spinal injections and addressing lower lumbar pathologies and their treatments.
Day 2: Chronic Pain, Coding, and Certification—A Comprehensive Approach to Clinical and Administrative Excellence
The concluding portion centers on chronic pain management and the administrative expertise essential for comprehensive care. Faculty emphasize the safe and responsible administration of pain medications from a clinical perspective, guiding patient evaluation, distinguishing acute versus chronic ailments, and addressing legal considerations. Attendees revisit proper coding and reimbursement practices for various injections, then observe a trigger point and joint instruction demonstration that flows into an open lab session for additional hands-on practice. By integrating earlier lessons—fluoroscopy, diagnostic lumbar facet joint injections, arthrocentesis, prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma, botulinum toxin-A, non-ablative interventional therapies, lumbar facet joint procedures, cadaver work, anatomical models, and spinal injections—participants secure a comprehensive skill set. Completion of the program awards the coveted pain management certification, confirming mastery of both the technical and administrative demands of the discipline.
Our Most Comprehensive Training Program with Pearls of Wisdom
During our programs, we dedicate considerable time to teaching you the 'Pearls' of Pain Management. Perfecting your techniques in Pain Management requires more than a thorough understanding of performing these techniques. These 'Pearls' result from years of experience in Pain Management, and providing this information is an integral part of The Pain Management Programs.
The Pain Management Show is our most comprehensive Pain Management Certification Training program, covering spinal injections in the lumbosacral spine, large and small joint injections, trigger points, and regenerative modalities such as PRP and prolotherapy. It also addresses common entrapment neuropathies like carpal tunnel, ulnar nerve, and tarsal tunnel syndrome. The course is highly detailed, offering a complete explanation of each technique, including information on patient selection, evaluation, historical and physical examination, and the use of imaging for proper diagnosis of associated pathology.
The Pain Show provides both hands-on and didactic training in using Fluoroscopy and ultrasound for image-guided procedures. In addition to lectures, hands-on workshops are provided using custom models specifically designed for learning interventional techniques.
A Workshop Covering Procedures, Compliance, Protocols, Insurance, Medicare, and More
Physicians, nurses, dentists, and other licensed healthcare professionals will receive hands on training during the workshop on all injection procedures as well as use of Fluoroscopy and other instrumentation needed in Pain Management.
Course didactics include the proper documentation of medical necessity and coding criteria. Although Pain Management and the associated interventional techniques are still generously reimbursed by Medicare and most insurance companies, it is of the utmost importance to follow correct medical necessity and documentation protocols which are essential for correct reimbursement. We urge every physician to become familiar with their local Medicare Review Policy (LCD).
The Pain Management Show is typically offered several times throughout the year, normally starting on Friday and ending on Sunday. Related courses in Pain Management, such as the Advanced Pain Management Training, PRP, and others are offered around the same time as the Pain Management course for physicians, nurses, dentists, and other licensed healthcare professionals. Please check local listings for additional scheduling information.

Learn Hands-on Injection Techniques and More from Pain Management Physicians
This pain management program includes landmark-based palpatory peripheral joint injection techniques and ultrasound-guided peripheral joint injections, as well as fluoroscopically-guided spine injections and ultrasound-guided lumbosacral spine injections where feasible. It is a very comprehensive, detailed hands-on workshop. Following the initial didactic-lecture portion of the program, physicians will receive extensive hands-on training. This is accomplished using custom-made proprietary injection models specifically designed for learning facet and spinal injections. Empire Medical has provided this type of hands-on pain management training for the past 11 years and is one of the most recognized workshops for learning injection procedures. Our instructors are top pain management physicians with extensive day-to-day experience in Pain Management Injections. Additionally, advanced preceptorship with an instructor can be arranged after completing the initial workshop.
Image guidance is typically an integral part of performing spinal injections. Besides the precision it adds, there's also an increase in reimbursement. The value of image guidance will be discussed during the coding and reimbursement segment of the program. While these procedures are generously reimbursed by most insurance companies, it's crucial that physicians adhere strictly to medical necessity criteria and comply with their local insurance carrier and Medicare guidelines. This adherence is essential to avoid incorrect coding and overutilization.
University-Style Curriculum
The pain management seminar begins with didactic material covering the specific principles of various medical procedures. Later in the day, physicians will engage in a hands-on workshop to gain proficiency in various injection techniques.
You'll specifically learn the Palpatory Method and the latest Fluoroscopic techniques for performing different injections. This practical learning involves working with volunteer patients and injection models.
Physicians will grasp specific methods to ensure appropriate reimbursement for these high-paying procedures and understand the business principles necessary to successfully integrate these new services into their practice. Learning to access local Medicare policies for your geographic area is emphasized. Attendees are urged to follow their local Medicare and insurance carrier's guidelines.
Moreover, upon successful completion and demonstration of the various injection procedures, you'll receive your Pain Management Certification and Certificate of Achievement.
Differentiate Facet Pathology as the Source of Your Patient’s Pain
During the course, you will learn, among other things, how to differentiate facet pathology as the source of your patient’s pain. This has been the focus of numerous discussions with Medicare and various insurance carriers due to reimbursement issues. Physicians must be cautious not to overutilize facet joint injections and must initially confirm the area and cause of the patients' pain. Several steps and tests are involved in confirming the nature of pain. Facet joint pathology is diagnosed using an injection procedure, which remains the gold standard for diagnosis. It’s essential to check your local Medicare review policy (LCD) as they outline the specific physical tests and imaging studies they expect in your process of diagnosing facet joint pathology. We will naturally review this topic in detail.
